The most iconic Restaurant in Zurich

There is a historical and glorious story behind this beautiful restaurant at the corner of Bellevue in Zurich. Hulda and her husband Gottlieb Zumsteg took over the former hotel "Couronne" and the famous "Kronenhalle" started operating.

Hulda Zumsteg acquired many works of art for the restaurant, for example, by Marc Chagall, Joan Miró, and Wassily Kandinsky, which are still there today. She also had a personal relationship with many of these artists, so they made most drawings with a dedication to the landlady.

The restaurant became a meeting point for writers, artists, and haute couture designers: James Joyce, Thomas Mann, Coco Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Chagall, Frederico Fellini, Max Frisch, and Friedrich Dürrenmatt are just a few of the prominent personalities that have felt at home here.

In today's words, Hulda would be described as "hostess with the mostest," or for "non-millennials", the noun or phrase that defines the most successful, lavish, and well-connected party-giving woman.

Besides hosting all prominent names, Hulda had a big heart. She was a benevolent landlady who gave hungry students soup and a piece of bread.

I adore every corner of the restaurant because I find it so special and unique. Not because there is a lavish design, but because you can feel the presence of history; literally, you could still imagine Coco Chanel sitting on the table or having in mind Max Frisch and Friedrich Dürrenmatt seated on the table while smoking a cigar.

Et voilà! ❤️
